Curated stay

Cabin in Jispa

Jispa, Himachal

The stay

Jispa is a small Himalayan village where many travellers stop for the night on their way to Ladakh after crossing the Atal Tunnel. But I think it deserves more than just an overnight halt. Spend a couple of days here, and you can experience the rugged beauty of the mountains, with towering snow-covered peaks and the Bhaga River flowing nearby.
Life here moves at a quieter pace. There aren’t many organised activities or treks to keep you occupied, and that’s part of the appeal. You can spend time reading a book, painting with the snow-covered mountains as backdrop, or simply sitting outdoors and taking in the views. The landscape feels close and immediate.
The nights are something special. Temperatures can drop well below freezing, so an electrically heated bed is a welcome comfort. On clear nights, the sky opens up to reveal countless stars and, when conditions are right, the Milky Way. A bonfire under the open sky makes the evening even more memorable.
Jispa can also be a lovely base for a couple of days of working remotely. You can spend your day working with mountain views around you and step away from your screen to enjoy the river, the open landscape or a quiet evening outdoors.
You can go for day trips to places like Baralacha La, Sissu or the remote Gongbo Rangjon peak and the ancient Phuktal Monastery each offering a different perspective on the dramatic Himalayan landscape

Around & experiences

  • Day trip to Zanskar

You can explore the dramatic landscapes of the Zanskar region, from the striking peak of Gongbo Rangjon to the remote Phuktal Monastery, perched amid rugged cliffs. The high-altitude desert valley offers mesmerising mountain views, stark terrain and a glimpse into Ladakh’s quieter, more remote corners.

  • Day trip to Baralachha

For a little more adventure, drive towards Suraj Tal and Deepak Tal, crossing the spectacular Baralacha La Pass along the way. Experience vast, snow-clad landscapes, stop to play in the snow when conditions permit, and take in the raw beauty of the high mountains. You can also plan a scenic drive towards Sissu before returning, depending on road conditions and the time available.

  • Bonfire

As the temperature drops, gather around a bonfire under the star-filled Himalayan sky, with the Milky Way making an appearance on clear nights. Enjoy a warm, freshly prepared dinner outdoors, surrounded by mountains, silence and the glow of the fire.

Food

Food here is freshly prepared to the order. Othere option is a small resturant a few steps away on the main road. Within a couple of km, there are multiple restaurants.
